Also known as Whelans Garden Ornaments they claim to be the largest manufacturer of concrete ornaments in the UK so I thought if there was ever a place to buy a gnome, this would be it. They did have several gnomes but only a dozen or so that I could find and for a place stocking 4,000 different designs the ‘gnome to non gnome ratio’ was pretty disappointing. They also don’t have an online catalogue or ship stuff. That really is why we drove all the way to the Isle of Sheppey to blaze a trail and check the place out for our readership. There were half a dozen half painted gnomes there for a tenner each, any of which (with a bit more paint) I would have been happy to put in the gnomery and Bec found a frog she took quite a shine to.
In the end I ended up buying three gnomes peeing against a wall (it was the gnomes that were peeing against the wall, not me). Unpainted they were only ten quid. They weigh an absolute ton but there were trolleys available and the (free) car park was just across the road. If you live in or around Kent I would say it was most definitely worth a visit.
