One day Bec was working in the garden and thought that it needed something to cheer it up. She suggested to Andy that they got a garden gnome. There are now well over thirty in the front garden and we are always on the lookout for more (as long as they are cheap). Most of our collection has come from car boot sales, some have come from the pound shop and our local recycling centre in leatherhead has a shop that has yielded several additions to the collection.
Things are moving on apace. I have ordered some gnome moulds from eBay which should arrive soon. I am not sure that we want the garden full of identical gnomes but on the other hand if a terracotta army is good enough for Qin Shi Huang maybe in 2000 years’ time archaeologists will be digging up Andy and Bec’s concrete gnome army and scratching their heads in bemusement.
We made our first clay gnome recently. Whilst I would be the first to admit that she is not likely to win any beauty competitions, might be a little ‘top heavy’ and needs a little help with her makeup we are quite pleased with her as a first attempt and hopefully we will get better. Soon she will take her rightful place in the gnomery.
